Manuel Stegmiller, Mandan, 89, died June 30, 2011, at his home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Thursday, July 7, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with Father Shane Campbell officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Flasher.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday followed by a rosary/vigil service at 7 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Manuel was born Jan., 12, 1922, in rural Flasher, to Joseph and Edith (Friesz) Stegmiller Sr. He was raised on a farm near Flasher. On May 28, 1946, he married Frances Scholl in the former St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Fallon. He farmed near Flasher for over 30 years. Manuel felt very strongly about the value of co-operatives in the farming community, and served for many years on numerous boards. Manuel was an accomplished carpenter, and did carpentry work for friends and family members. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Verein and the Eagles. He especially loved playing the drums in several bands, fishing, and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; three daughters, Joyce and Ray Fleck, Elaine Riehl (Glenn Dittus), Alice and Marlo Anderson, and son-in-law, Larry Morgen, all of Mandan; four sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Donna K., Bismarck, Mike and Lavonne, Flasher, Steve and Barb, and Bob and Terri, all of Mandan; special family members, Laverne and Erin Seehafer; three brothers, Eugene, Bismarck, Leo and Rufina, Flasher, Henry and Leona, Mandan; sister-in-law, Margie Stegmiller, Mandan; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Manuel was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Peggy Morgen; brother, Joe Stegmiller, infant brother, Liberatus; two sisters, Frances (Jake) Hatzenbuhler, Pauline (George) Bohl; sister-in-law, Emma Stegmiller; and grandson, Brian Fleck.

In lieu of flowers, family prefers memorials to Flasher Community Scholarship Program or Medcenter One Hospice Program.
