Charles Thomas Wollaston, 84, of New Garden Township, died peacefully Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Linden Hall in Kennett Square. He was the husband of the late Janet Gatchell Wollaston who died in 1974 and with whom he shared 28 years of marriage.

Born in West Grove, he was the son of the late Howard C. and Ellen Mitchell Wollaston. A birthright member of New Garden Friends Meeting, Charlie was a 1941 graduate of Kennett High School. He was a self-employed dairy farmer for over 60 years at Maple Lawn Farm.

Charlie was a member of London Grove Grange for more than 65 years. Actively involved in 4-H in his youth, he was a 4-H leader for over 60 years. Other memberships included Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Home and Farm Antique Association, Interstate Milk Producers Cooperative, and the American Jersey Cattle Club. For over 30 years he was chairman of the Unionville Fair Dairy Show. In addition, Charlie enjoyed many years calling square dances and spending time with his family and friends.

Charlie is survived by one son, Thomas H. Wollaston and wife Mary of Landenberg; five daughters, Margaret Empet and husband Dale of Kingsley, Martha Johnson and husband Stephen of West Chester, Nancy McMahon and husband William of Kirkwood, Catherine Guest and husband Stanley of Pottstown, and Elizabeth Stahlnecker and husband Kevin of Cogan Station, 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Eleanor Hawthorne of Kennett Square; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Naghski of Germantown and Rebecca McIlvain of State College, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Janet, Charlie was predeceased by his brother, J. Paul Wollaston.

Family and friends may call at New Garden Friends Meeting House from 7:00-9:00pm, Friday, April 11. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 12 at 1:00pm at New Garden Friends Meeting House, 875 Newark Road, Toughkenamon, PA 19374.

Interment will be private.
