Obituary
John R. Pierce, 81, of Dalton, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013.
He was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Perry, to Violet Pearl (Penhollow) and John Ward Pierce.
John graduated from Perry High School and from Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Ill. He served as a minister of the gospel for 60 years, with many missionary endeavors around the world. He held full-time pastorates with Wapella Christian Church in Wapella, Ill., Webber Street Christian Church in Urbana, Ill., First Christian Church in Fort Myers, Fla., Chapel Hill Christian Church in Kokomo, Ind., First Christian Church in Sullivan, Ind., and Cornerstone Christian Church in Deltona, Fla.
He is survived by his second wife, Kathryn (Farthing); daughters, Sallie Pierce of Melbourne, Fla., and Sandra (Jon) Zeltman of Kidron; grandchildren, Dustin Anderson of Melbourne, Fla., Matt Zeltman of Sacramento, Calif., Sarah Zeltman-Smith of Tacoma, Wash., and Jacob Zeltman of Kidron; and brothers, Manley Pierce of Fenton, Mich., and Ben Pierce of Perry.
John was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marion Lorraine (Zima) in 1992; and brother, David Pierce.
The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at The Behm Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 26 River St., Madison, with visitation one hour before the service. Final Resting Place will be at Perry Cemetery.
