Edward R. Allen (1866-1941) started his Cherry Café in the east room of the Bon Ton Restaurant and Confectionery at Second and East Main Streets in Fairbank, Iowa in March 1924. It offered homemade baking and good lunches will be served at all hours. Ed's son Wayne used to go into the street to ring a bell at mealtimes, which was served family-style — all you could eat for fifty cents, according to Verlie (Hahn) Trower, born and raised in Fairbank.
