ARCHIBALD CARLYLE GRIFFITH JR., 84, of Madison, W.Va., passed away March 21, 2010. He was born in Madison on September 9, 1925, the son of A.C. and Madge Griffith. Arch graduated from Scott High School and Marshall College. He and his father co-owned and operated a retail business, A.C. Griffith & Son, in Madison for many years. Arch was a life-long member of Madison Baptist Church. He proudly served his country for two years during World War II with the Army Air Force and retired as Lieutenant Colonel with the West Virginia Air National Guard, 130th Airlift Wing. He was an avid golfer and competed on the golf course until the last few months of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Barbara Griffith Burris, and a great-granddaughter Amanda Griffith. Arch is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Elizabeth Moore Griffith; children Mike Griffith and wife Donna, Debbie Parks, Arch Griffith III "Bozo," Denise Griffith, Diane Harman and husband Marc, and Alan Griffith; grandchildren, Katie Balsamo and husband Anthony, Taylor Parks, Arch Griffith IV "Archie" and wife Cindy, Heather Smith and husband Elijah, Michael Dale Griffith, Hayley Burdette, Tyson Corley, Keaton Corley, George Anderson Barker, Stevi Wright and husband Marty, and Morgan Griffith; great-grandchildren Jack Balsamo, Mary Griffith, Chloe Griffith, Ellie Griffith, Rylee Wright and Jaden Smith. There will be a brief memorial service on March 27 at noon, at the Madison Baptist Church. Friends may visit the family two hours prior to the service. The family requests In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Madison Baptist Church. The family would like to thank Rev. Roger Tinnell, the staff of Boone Memorial Hospital and Dr. Snyder for their support and compassion. The family is also grateful to Dr. Robert Atkins, family physician and special friend.
