William Henry Burham, brother to Gil Burham, who is well known in this county, died April 5 after a long, tedious illness. He died of cancer on the lip and his entire lower lip was eaten away. He suffered terribly. He had an honorable war record, having been a member of Co. B, Eighteenth Iowa Infantry. He was in the battles of Prairie D'Anne, Poison Springs, Jenkins Ferry, and Clarksville. He was shot in the hand while on picket duty at Ft. Smith, Ark., and lost a finger. He was discharged at Little Rock, Ark., June 10, 1865 for disability. He was the sin of Augustus Burham and Rebecca Stewart Burham. He was born in Hampshire county, Va. July 14, 1832. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1852. He lived on a farm in Cedar twp., for a good many years. In 1852, he was married to Miss Mary E. Sigafoos. They had seven children. His wife died Jan. 9, 1899. Six children are living. He was buried at Elm Grove April __. The funeral was under the auspices of the G.A.R, the sermon preached by Rev. Schreckengast. Six of his old comrades were pallbearers.
