Funeral services for Jacob Samuel (Jake) Adkins, 85, of Edina will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 in Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina. The Rev. Luke Turnbough of Edina will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Linville cemetery with military rites at the gravesite. Mr Adkins died Tuesday morning (Sept 26, 1978) at 12:15 at his home.

Born Aug 12, 1893 in Putnam County, he was the son of James Samuel and Adelia Osborn Adkins. On Sept 05 1919 in Kirksville, he married Ruth Opal Briddle who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Archie Dee Adkins of Ft Madison, Iowa, Roy Samuel Adkins, of Keokuk, Iowa, and Johnnie Lee Adkins, of Montrose, Iowa; one daughter Mrs. Harold (Willadean) Shumaker of Novinger, Missouri; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson; two sisters, Laura McKim, and Opal Brackney on April 28, 1977and two brothers, Roy Adkins and one in infancy.

Mr. Adkins had been an employee of the Burlington and Northern Railroad for over 37 years before his retirement. Most of his life was spent in Knox County, with the exception of a few years which were spent in Kirksville. During WWI, Mr Adkins served with the United States Army. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Employees and also a member of American Legion post 261.
