Mr. J.L. "Pup" Cook, age 88, of Cook Street, in Sandersville, died on Sunday, September 8, 2013.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 11th, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Lee Lacey and Minister Marlon Lastinger will officiate. Pallbearers will be Christopher Cook, Drew Cook, Andy Webb, Clint Thompson, Rogers Anderson, Otis Smith, Richard Veal and Mack Walters. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Irwin Evans Sunday School Class at First Baptist.

Mr. Cook was born in Washington County the son of the late Julius Lawrence Cook, Sr. and the late Mamie Clements Cook. Mr. Cook first worked in delivery for Sunbeam Bread Company prior to owning and operating Cook's Standard Station from which he retired. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sandersville and the Irwin Evans Sunday School Class. Mr. Cook was a 54 year Master Mason of the Hamilton Masonic Lodge #58. He also served his country in WWII in the US Navy. Mr. Cook is predeceased by his first wife Doris Smith Cook.

Survivors include his wife, Laverne Womble Cook of Sandersville; sons, Kerry and his wife Patricia Bryan Cook of Riddleville, Blair and his wife Ronda Crosby Cook of Evans, and Chris and his wife Julie Andrews Cook of Milledgeville; grandchildren, Christopher Macken Cook and Drew Cook both of Atlanta and Hannah Cook of Columbia, SC; and his 80 inch flat screen TV.

The family will be at the Cook residence on Cook Street in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Donations may be made to the Washington County Regional Medical Center in appreciation of the ICU staff, 610 Sparta Hwy., Sandersville, GA 31082 or to the First Baptist Church of Sandersville, 316 Mathis Circle, Sandersville, GA 31082.

May and Smith Funeral Directors is in charge of these arrangements.
