He was raised in Clinton, Mo, where he graduated from Clinton High School in 1974. He later attended Southwest Missouri State University, now Missouri State University, in Springfield, Mo. He graduated in 1980 with a Bachelors of Science Degree. At SMS, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Scott married Kathy Lynn Chapman, daughter of Michael Kent and Barbara Mae (Anderson) Chapman, on August 31, 1984. On October 31, 1986, they became the proud parents of daughter Sarah Lynn Shoemaker. Scott and Kathy went on to found and operate RE/MAX Truman Lake for the past 19 years, where he achieved top levels in real estate.
