John was born to Pete and Guiditta Paleni Bottari. He worked and lived on the family ranch in Lamoille Valley, until he went into the service in January of 1942, until Sept 30, 1945, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theatre. He married Betty Merriman on Nov 6, 1946. They had three sons: Tim, Tom and Pat. Tom preceded him in death. His wife Betty survives him. He worked for Elko-Lamoille Power Company, which later became the Nevada Power Company and then C.P. National, which is now Sierra Pacific Power. He was an equipment operator and mechanic.
