Early Life: Tom was born on June 23, 1929, in Downey, Idaho, to Myrl and Elizabeth Burton Hooker.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Tom served a mission for the LDS Church in France and Belgium from 1949 to 1952, and upon his return attended and graduated from the University of Idaho. While there, he fell in love with Joyce Sumsion. They were married on April 16, 1954 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He became an officer in the United States Air Force, and with his wife and children in tow, moved to Japan, North Carolina, Hawaii, Virginia, Utah, Taiwan and South Carolina, including a year away from his family in Thailand. Tom received many military honors, including the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force after 21 years, at the rank of Major, and in 1976 settled in Provo, Utah for the rest of his life. Tom served in the LDS Church with dedication as a Bishop, Branch President, member of a Stake Presidency, and in many other callings. Those who served with him speak of his reliance on spiritual guidance in caring for and serving people. He also had a playful side, composing clever tunes to express his feelings with humor, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Tom will be remembered as a man filled with kindness and love for all. Thomas Myrl Hooker passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011, in Provo, Utah, with his loving wife by his side. He was 81 years old.
Survived By: His wife of 56 years, Joyce; four children: Bryan, Chris, David and LeeAnn along with their spouses; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his brother, Lewis Hooker.
