"Betsy Marie Barrett, 106, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at her home.


Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.


Betsy Marie Barrett was born Aug. 23, 1899, in Valdres, Norway, the daughter of Aksel J. and Lorentze (Soleglad) Nelson. She was baptized in Norway on Oct. 3, 1899. She came from Norway to Sioux City with her parents and two siblings in 1903. She was known to all of her family and friends as 'Sweetie Pie,' which she was.


She married George F. Barrett on May 19, 1923, in Dakota City. He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1989, in Sioux City. She was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church.


Survivors include three daughters, Lorraine Barger of Binghamton, N.Y., Phyllis Boyle of Alta Loma, Calif., and Patti Barrett of Sioux City; a brother, Ray 'Swede' Nelson of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by a son, George J. Barrett; a daughter, JoAnn Miille; a great-grand-daughter, Stephanie Shomber; and a granddaughter, Kathy Barrett Miller.
