"George F. Barrett, 85, 501 W. Clifton Ave., retired carpenter, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1989, in a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness.


Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ellwood Rieke officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery.


Mr. Barrett was born March 13, 1903, in Sioux City. He attended Sioux City public schools and was a lifelong resident. He married Betsy Nelson on May 19, 1923, in Elk Point, S.D. A carpenter, he was employed by several local construction firms for many years, retiring in 1969.


Mr. Barrett was a member and past business agent for the Carpenter's Union Local 948. He was a Lutheran.


Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Barger of Binghamton, N.Y., Mrs. Robert (Phyllis) Boyle of La Mirada, Calif., Miss Patti Barrett of Metairie, La., and Mrs. Darrell (JoAnn) Miille of Sioux City; a brother, Ralph Barrett of Jacksonville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, George, Jr., in 1970." Sioux City Journal
