Clipping of the obituary for Singleton Gideon Howell
The Daily Constitution (Atlanta) newspaper dated August 22, 1878:

We regret to chronicle the fact that Hon. Singleton G. Howell, a brother of Judge Clark Howell, died near Duluth, in Gwinnett county, yesterday morning. He was first attacked with inflammation of the bowels, but the disease assumed a typhoid form and unfortunately proved fatal. Judge Howell was a prominent man and a citizen of great influence. He was born in Gwinnett county on the 12 of June, 1823, and was the youngest son of Evan Howell who was one of the pioneers settlers to Gwinnett. For a time, Judge Howell was a citizen of Atlanta, and was chosen judge of the superior court of DeKalb before the county of Fulton was made. He was a man of firm conviction and unyielding purpose, and always took a deep interest in politics. He was never an office seeker, however, but lent his time and his energies to the promotion of the principles he believed to be correct. On the day that he was fifty-two years old, he was elected a member of the constitutional convention, where his strong common sense and earnestness gave him large influence. Judge Howell will be buried at the family burial ground to-day at three o'clock p.m.
