Catherine Mustin's parents Anthony Kyle Mustin 1865 – 1919 and Sarah Alice Brooks 1866 – 1959. Her siblings were: William V Mustin 1884 – 1950; Ward H Mustin 1885 – 1885; Norman Mustin 1885; Ella Mae Mustin 1887 – 1980; Mallie Mustin 1889; Lonnie Mustin 1891; Lelia Ann Mustin 1892 – 1939; Lillian Bernice Mustin 1895 – 1898; George Hobson Mustin 1898 – 1967; Margret Mustin 1900 – 1901; Clara Ora Mustin 1902 – 1972; Louise Mustin 1904 – 1980; Mattie Gertrude Mustin 1907 – 1989 and Ernest J Mustin 1914 – 1987.

Mar. 5, 1909, Katherine Mustin married the handsome Joseph Andrew Buchanan. Over the next 20 years Kate gave birth to 11 children. They were: Mary Elizabeth Buchanan 1910; Catherine Buchanon 1912; Alice Buchanon 1914; Joseph Anthony Buchanan 1915; Gertrude Buchanon 1918; Charlie E Buchanan 1920; Johnie Buchanan 1922; William Buchanan 1924;Willy Buchanon 1925; Margaret Buchanan 1928 and Ella M Buchanan 1929.

At the date that the 1910 census was enumerated Joe and Kate didn't have any children yet, but his mother Elizabeth was living with them.

By the 1930 census Kate and Joe had moved there family to Crab Orchard, Kentucky. They were living in a rented house, nine of the children were living at home. Joseph was making a living as a carpenter.

In 1940 the family had been living in a rented house on Allen School Road in Crab Orchard since before 1935, Joe was farming 44 hours a week. The three boys were working about 10 to 15 hours as farm helpers a week. The family only completed about the 4th grade of elementary school.

Jan. 15, 1946 was a day of sadness. Joseph Andrew Buchanan had passed away. Kate selected a grave site and gathered her family and friend around her as she bid her dearly beloved husband farewell. He was buried at the Crab Orchard Cemetery in Lincoln Co. Kentucky

On Nov. 9, 1949 Katherine passed away. From her death certificate it was learned that she was living in Stanford, Kentucky. Her daughter, Mrs Vick Rice, was the informant on the certificate, and probably Kate had been living with them. Kate had lived 62 years 1 month and 18 days. She had been suffering with Gall Bladder problem for the past 10 months.

Her body was taken to the Stanford Morgan funeral home, to be prepared for burial, and the certificate said she was to be buried at the EFFICES Church on Nov. 11,1949.

Family and friends gathered to bid their precious Mother and beloved friend to Rest in Peace.
