Gabriel was born in Kentucky and came to Indiana with his father, Frederick ROYSE as one of the earliest settlers in southern Indiana.

He was the husband of Sarah Ann ( Whortel or McWhorter ).

Gabriel served in the 5th regiment, Indiana Militia, during the War of 1812, actually 1813. May have been at Tippecanoe.

Gabriel cared for his parents in their old age and inherited the bulk of the estate.
