Mrs. Mildred Harper, age 73 of the Tanglewood community, died at 1:16 p.m. Monday afternoon, August 26, 2013 at the University Medical Center in Lebanon where she was admitted August 21st following a months' long battle with cancer. Her pastor, Eld. James "Pee Wee" Massey, officiated at the 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, August 28th services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Smith County Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Harper was one of seven children of the late Floyd Leon Angel, who died September 25, 1980 and Lena Mai Thomas Angel, who died October 7, 2000 at the age of 86. She was born Mildred Irene Angel in the Turkey Creek community on April 14,1940. Two brothers preceded her in death, Billy Joe Angel, who died May 26, 2006 at the age of 68, and James H. Angel, who died October 2, 1992 at the age of 60. On February 22, 1958 at the home of the late Eld. Phocian Gibbs, she was united in marriage to Ray Edward Harper of South Carthage. Mrs. Harper was a 1958 graduate of Smith County High School. She retired in 2010 from Muller Brass in South Carthage. Following her retirement, the delight of her retirement was providing day care for her great-granddaughter, Mallie Kate. They spent numerous happy hours together. Mrs. Harper was a member of the South Carthage Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to her husband is her son: Steve Harper and wife, Tammy Piper Harper, of Riddleton; daughter: Melina Harper Davenport and husband, Harold, of Tanglewood; two sisters: Christine Shores and husband Fred, of Hendersonville, Ann Alley and husband, Robert, of South Carthage; two brothers: Floyd (Frosty) Angel and wife, Beverly, of Pea Ridge, Bobby Angel, of Clarksville; sister-in-law: Earlene Angel, of Gallatin; grandchildren: Mia Harper Whitaker and husband, Dusty, and their daughter, Mallie Kate, of Tanglewood, Candice Harper, of Cookeville, Drew Davenport, of Knoxville, Evan Davenport, of Tanglewood.
