White River Jct., VT – Sally Anne Reed, 76, died Tuesday Morning August 27th at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

She was born April 18 1937 in Hartford, VT a daughter of Roy W. and May (Kivler) Reed. Sally graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1955. She worked at the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in Hanover for several years before attending Temple University in Philadelphia where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Speech and Audiology. Sally began a career as a medical secretary, working for at time at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover and took classes at Lebanon College to become more skilled at her profession. She also worked at a Hospital in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia where she lived for eight years. After returning home she worked for several years in special education at the Hartford Middle School as a speech and reading teacher and took classes at Castleton State College, working toward her Master's Degree Education. Before retiring she worked at the Council on Aging at the Bugbee Senior Center in White River Jct.

Sally enjoyed learning and taking classes to further her education, she also loved animals, especially her birds. Most of all she received great joy in helping others, including her time volunteering as a senior companion for which she received several awards for her service.

She is survived by her children Scott Perkins and his wife Lisa Kenyon of Tunbridge, VT, Darlene Backman and her husband Stephen of White River Jct., and Deborah Locke and her husband Julian of Warner, NH; grandchildren Benjamin Henderson, Megan Laramie, Greg Perkins, Casey Perkins and Kristen Perkins Hampton; a sister Peggy Mongeau of White River Jct.; three brothers, John and Thomas Reed both of Homosassa Springs, FL and Robert Reed of White River Jct.; an uncle James Kivler of Charlestown, NH several nieces, nephews, cousins and a longtime friend, who she met in Saudi Arabia and was like a son to her, Ahson Khalid.

Sally was predeceased by a brother Roy A. Reed.

A graveside service will be held in the West Hartford Cemetery at 11AM on Saturday August 31st.
