He graduated from Hartford High School in 1958. He attended two years of college at the University of New York while in the military. He was just one class shy of that elusive accounting degree (Algebra which he was studying at the time of his passing). Bob joined the US Army in 1958 and retired from the military in 1980 as a Sergeant First Class. He was, rightfully so, very proud of his military career. His proudest assignments included service as a Secret Control Officer, Alternative Top Secret Control Officer, Military Assistance Command in Vietnam and lastly logging over 750,000 air miles while escorting the nation's most highly classified documents around the world. After his retirement from the US Army, Bob worked at DHMC from 1980 until his retirement in 1996.
Bob married Nancy Horne in 1961 in White River Junction, VT and they returned to the Upper Valley in 1980 after spending 22 years serving in the military around the world. They were married for 48 years before Nancy predeceased him. In 2016 Bob married Janice Amaral and they enjoyed being snowbirds – living in Enfield, NH and Homosassa, FL.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Reed) Lee and her husband, Robert E. Lee as well as his daughter, Sherry (Reed) Aldrich and her husband, John Aldrich. He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Tabitha Lee (and her children, Kaylen and Connor); Robby Lee (and his son, Landon Lee); Jonathan Lee; Joshua Aldrich and his partner Tania Loya; Benjamin Lee; Joseph Lee and his wife, Rachel Lee; Timothy Lee; Rebekah Lee; Pearl Aldrich and Francis Aldrich. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Reed and sister, Peggy Mongeau both of whom reside in Homosassa, FL. He has left behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as friends across the world.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Nancy P. Reed. He was also preceded by his father, Roy W. Reed; his mother, May V. Reed (Kivler); his brother, Roy (Sonny) Reed; his sister, Sally Reed and his brother, John Reed.
In addition to his very full life and his love for his family and friends, Bob enjoyed many hobbies which included woodworking, coin collecting, building models and gardening. Over the years he has loved several faithful companions: Chuck, Zeus, Toby, Rufus and Ruby. He took great pleasure in family lake vacations these past few summers.
