OBITUARY: "West Liberty Enterprise" April 7, 1887, p1

"ELLIOTT - Died at the residence of Mr. Albert Keith, one mile north of West Liberty, on March 31, 1887, at 2:15 p.m., Mr. George Elliott, aged 85 years, 11 months and 20 days.
Thus one of the old pioneers of Eastern Iowa has passed away never more to return. Mr. Elliott was born in Frederick county, Maryland, where he lived to the age of manhood and where he married Miss Annie Russell. In the year 1855 he removed with his family to Iowa and settled upon the old homestead in Cedar county, just north of town, where he has lived to see his children grow up to manhood and womanhood and leave the parental roof tree to establish homes of their own; where his loving helpmate left him for the better land from whence she has awaited his coming many years. At the time of his death only a brother and sister and six children were living, (since that time the sister has gone to the better land, leaving Uncle Reuben Elliott as the only relative of his generation). Of thirteen children, seven are dead and five were present in the father's last hours. Deceased was a member of the Society of Friends and was ever held in high esteem by those who had the honor of his acquaintance. The funeral services were conducted at the home of Mr. Albert Keith on April 2d, and were attended by many intimate friends who have known Mr. Elliott many years. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery south of town. The surviving relatives have the sincerest sympathy of hosts of friends who realize full well the great loss they are called upon to bear."
