WARETOWN Alice Duryea Farrington Hixson, 88, passed away Thursday in Barnegat Nursing Center.
Born and raised in New York, NY, Mrs. Hixson had resided in Trenton, moved to Fairfax, VA for about 12 years and returned to New Jersey in the early 1970s.
She was a graduate of Trenton Central High School, and the William McKinley School of Nursing (now Capital Health System at Fuld), Class of 1939. She was a homemaker, and a volunteer in such organizations as the American Red Cross, the Civil Defense Program, and the Blood Mobile. She also volunteered her nursing services in the Virginia School System.
Alice enjoyed oil painting and fine arts, and was a former member of the Pennington Women's Club.
She was predeceased by her parents Fred D. and Sarah Scase Farrington, her husband, John Donald Hixson, her brothers, Fred Dwilton, Charles E., and John T. Farrington, and her sister Loretta S. Blackman.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Neal Orlando of Waretown, and Margo and Syd Emmons of Hamilton; and three grandchildren, John D. Hixson II, Theodore Francis Lewis III, and Allison Marie Lewis.
Family and friends may call 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square.
