Death of Mrs. Wheeler
Mrs. Mattie Herring Wheeler, wife of John Wheeler, died at five o'clock Friday morning at her home on West King street, death being caused from a tumor on the brain. Mrs. Wheeler took suddenly ill at the home of a neighbor, Mrs. R. L. Todd, Monday evening, February 24, later being removed to her home.
The tumor, which formed on the right temple, partly caused from the bursting of a blood vessel, it is thought, blinded her eye eventually and produced paralysis of her left side. She suffered intense pain during the time that she was sick. For the past few years Mrs. Wheeler had complained of a severe headache at times.
Deceased was born November 23, 1873, in Jefferson county, Indiana, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Herring. Her marriage to John Wheeler took place December 28, 1892, in Jefferson county. They have been residents of this city for the past several years. Mrs. Wheeler was a splendid Christian woman, and had traits of character, that made for her many friends of her acquaintances and her death is greatly mourned. She was a most excellent neighbor and friend.
Besides the husband, she is survived by a son and daughter, Stanley and Grace Wheeler, three sisters, Mrs. Ned Vanantwerp, Mrs. Kate Benefil, and Mrs. Florence Mitchell of Jefferson county, four brothers, Samuel and Zeph Herring of Jefferson county, and James and John Herring of Johnson county.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home. Interment will be made at Greenlawn cemetery. Friends may call between the hours of two and four o'clock Saturday afternoon, and nine and eleven o'clock Sunday morning.
