John Anthony Grubaugh was born in 1912 to James Washington Grubaugh and Alice Pearl Spencer. John was the second of the three boys born to James and Alice. Each of his parents had been previously married and each had one child living as a result of their previous marriages. John's parents divorced shortly before 1920 and Alice is shown in the 1920 census living with the three boys in Hampton, IL. Alice married William Arthur Timmerman and, in 1930, John is living with them in Moline, IL. John married Viola Mildred Ohlsen in about 1933. They had one child, Vance Miller Grubaugh, born 9 Dec 1934. John and Viola divorced sometime between 1940 and 1946 when Viola married Oscar A. Coon. After the divorce, John's son, Vance, went to live with the Timmermans. John never remarried. He died in Deer Lodge County, Montana in 1964.
