Early Life: Rick was born October 8, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Eldon Reid and Phyllis Pyper Smart. He graduated from South High School and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Zealand.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: On June 15, 1974, Rick was sealed to the love of his life, Cheryl Ann Ord, in the Los Angeles California Temple for all eternity. Rick served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps. Rick was affectionately known by his family and friends as "The Ricker." He was more than just the life of any party. The Ricker was a general instigator of fun wherever he went. His parties were legendary. He loved to entertain and prided himself on always having more food than any party could require. Rick had a passion for life that was contagious to all. He loved antiques, old houses, garage sales, parties, buffets, home improvements, BYU athletics, PGHS, and anything Irish, however, it was obvious to all who knew him that there was nothing more important to him than his family. Rick was as dedicated a father, husband, and son, as there ever was. He never missed a wrestling match, football game or cheer competition and always had his dear Cheryl by his side in everything he did. His family was truly the joy of his life and they all knew it. Rick valued his church membership and loved serving. He never showed up to any assignment without treats for his class or home teaching families. He will be sorely missed. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and son, Richard "Rick" Lynn Smart, 63, passed away in Pleasant Grove, Utah, Monday night, August 26, 2013, in the presence of all of his family.
Survived By: His dear wife, with whom he enjoyed 39 wonderful years, Cheryl; six children, his mother, 14 grandchildren and four brothers.
Preceded in Death By: His father and sisters, Janet Smart Boyakin and Nicole Smart.
