Delbert E. Heckenlaible, age 86, entered peacefully into eternal life with his family by his side, on August 27, 2013.
He was born on September 11, 1926 to Emil and Beddy Heckenlaible near Highmore, South Dakota. He moved with his family to Minnesota in 1930 where he was raised, attended school and farmed with his parents.
Delbert married his loving devoted wife JoAnn (Hanson) Heckenlaible on February 23, 1952. Delbert and JoAnn moved to Lodi, California in November of 1952. They were blessed with two sons and three daughters as well as a daughter from Delbert's previous marriage. Delbert and JoAnn celebrated 61 years of marriage.
He was a member of the Zion Reformed Church in Lodi for more than 60 years. He served as a Deacon and an Elder, also sang in the choir. He was a past President of Valley Dairyman's Marketing Association for 12 years. He served as director for numerous agricultural associations including the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, San Joaquin County Testing Association, All West Dairy Breeder's Association and it's California Dairy Sire Committee. He was also a member of the Elks Club and SIRS.
His love for the land and passion for farming contributed to him becoming a successful dairymen and owning Triple Oaks Dairy, for 26 years. In later years along with farming his own grape vineyard he managed and custom farmed for others until he retired. He farmed for over 60 years in the Lodi area.
Delbert had a wonderful sense of humor and he loved western and gospel music. In his youth he sang and played guitar. His children and grandchildren loved to hear him play and sing. He enjoyed our family gatherings, loved fishing with his friends and traveling with the Sunny Roamers RV Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife JoAnn, children Linda Cook (Bill), David Heckenlaible (Joan), Sandra Gribaudo (Jim), Paul Heckenlaible (Elise), Brenda Maddox (Steve), Cheryl Jordan (Clay), 17 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Beddy Heckenlaible, first wife Lois, brother Ernie, sister Diane Plamondon and niece Suzanne Wright.
Memorial Services will be held for Delbert at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 3rd. At Zion Reformed Church, 105 S. Ham Lane Lodi, Ca. A private interment will be at Cherokee Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to be sent in Delbert's honor to Zion Reformed Church, Salvation Army, Hospice of San Joaquin, or charity of your choice.
