Cleveland Godwin, age 83, passed away peacefully August 18, 2013. He was born October 1, 1929 in
Micro, Johnston County, NC.
At the age of 17 Cleveland joined the US Navy and served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After 21 years of proudly serving his country he retired as Chief Gunner's Mate. During ths time he received numerous medals and accommodations.

After retiring from the US Navy he set out to become a barber. He owned and operated Allen's Barber Shop in Regency Square Mall until he retired in 1998.

He is predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Lena Mae, in 2005. Cleveland leaves behind 2 daughters Linda Van Pelt and Gale Boone, 2 sons Paul Godwin (Debbie) and Keith Godwin (Carey), 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother Lomax Godwin (Martha) and 4 sisters Cleo Spears (CV), Margaret Smith (Bob), Clora Godwin, Karen Prapher (Earl) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Cleveland enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, football, Nascar, gardening and spending time with his family. Cleveland was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all.

His family will receive friends Monday, August 26 between 6-8 pm at Hardge-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd N. Jacksonville, FL 32225. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 27 at 11:00 am at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens.
