"Born on April 15th, 1815 in Meiningen near Echternach in the Rhine province, Mr. Mehr immigrated to America in 1856. For three years he lived in Lake County, Illinois before settling in the town of Munson. Last autumn he left the farm and lived in Richmond. He was loved and respected by all who knew him, and he was a good Catholic, Almost daily he went to church, in order to attend mass. Even on the day of his death, he had spent his precious morning hours in church; and although his end was a sudden one, he still did not die unprepared. Because Mr. Mehr was a member of the Saint Joseph's Association (St. Joseph's Verein), the other members attended his funeral and served as an honor guard on the way to the cemetery. Our sympathies to the mourning widow and eight adult children. May he rest in peace!"
This obituary published in "Der Norstern" (translated by Jake Rogers, Saint Cloud State University in Spring 2007).

In a quote from the "History of Stearns County, MN" (about son, Jacob):
"Mr. & Mrs. John Mehr, who brought him to America in 1855, lived in Illinois until 1858, and then came to Stearns county and settled in section 17, Munson township, where they secured 160 acres, erected a log cabin, and underwent the usual experiences of pioneer life."
I believe they had five children; one son, Jacob & four daughters, Katherine, Margaretha, Eva & Anna Mary.
John Mehr had a total of eight children.
