Kathryn A. Zimmer, age 96, of Rensselaer passed away Friday, August 23, 2013, at the George Ade Memorial Healthcare, Brook, Indiana. Kathryn was born in Clinton County, Indiana on April 12, 1917, the daughter of James and Gartha (Mattix) Hackerd.
She was a 1935 graduate of Rossville High School and received her Bachelor's Degree from Ball State University. Kathryn loved teaching children. She taught at St. Augustine Catholic School in Rensselaer and later taught kindergarten for 15 years in Brook. Kathryn was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Rensselaer, Curtis Creek Country Club, Rensselaer and Hazelden Country Club, Brook. She was an avid bridge player and loved to read and travel.
On August 12, 1941, in Goodland, Indiana Kathryn married John Joseph Zimmer who passed away November 2, 1998.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 26, 2013 from 4-8 pm at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 10 am at the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Rensselaer with Fr. Don Davison officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Rensselaer.
Memorials may be made to the St. Augustine Catholic School, Rensselaer.
