Margaret A. Eaton
Margaret A. Eaton died Tuesday, July 5, 2005 of complications due to Alzheimer's Disease at Rydal Park Medical Center, Rydal. She was 93.
She was the widow of Dr. James T. Eaton, who was a mayor of Hatboro when he died in 1968. Margaret was also preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Dr. Shirley K. Eaton in 1999, and by six of her seven siblings. She is survived by her daughters Patricia E. Scott of Minnesota and Dr. Barbra L. Eaton of Maryland, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Margaret was educated in her parents' Illinois farmhouse and the public schools of Lockport, Ill. She met her husband at the University of Illinois, where both received degrees in chemistry in 1933.
Margaret was active in the Hatboro Girl Scouts for 17 years and was a committed troop leader. She was a life member of Girl Scouts USA. Her family's membership in Carmel Presbyterian Church in Glenside began in 1939. Margaret served as Carmel Church librarian from 1963 to 1994; she helped expand the library's space, the collection, the volunteer staff, and its financial stability. She believed in the value of reading to and with young children and loved providing "story hour" for the weekday preschool youngsters at the church. In 1987 her dedicated library service and leadership were recognized with the Outstanding Congregational Librarian Award, an annual national award made by the National Church and Synagogue Libraries Association. Margaret enjoyed pithy aphorisms, and one of her favorite sayings was, "Good, better, best, Never let it rest, Until the good is better, And the better best!"
The family thanks the competent and caring staff of Rydal Park Medical Center for their kindness and consideration during Margaret's final years in the fog of dementia.
A memorial service and life celebration will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 21, at Carmel Presbyterian Church, 100 Edge Hill Road, Glenside.
In lieu of flower, the family suggests contributions, In Memory of Margaret A.
