Grace I. Hempy, 80, of 1155 Fourteenth st., and a resident of Marion for 60 years passed away at 10:35 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 in a Marion nursing home. She was born the daughter of George and Callie Kline Knapp on Nov. 9, 1891 in Jones county. On March 14, 1907 at Martelle she was married to Glen I. Hempy who passed away March 31, 1970 in Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Hempy was a member of the First United Presbyterian church, Marion Chapter No. 183, O.E.S, a 50 year member of Grove City Rebekah Lodge, No. 35, a member of the Milwaukee Women's club and a charter member of Tuck-A-Stitch.
Surviving are a son, Donald L. Hempy; and a daughter, Mrs. James (Berniece) Fitzgerald, both of Marion; two grandsons, Norman Fitzgerald of Mechanicsville and Gerald Hempy of Des Moines; seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Arthur Knapp, and a sister, Mae O'Kelly.
Services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the Murdoch chapel in Marion, conducted by Rev. Jean P. Hauter. Interment was in Cedar Memorial Park.
