Berniece H. Fitzgerald,85, of 845 30th St., Marion, died Saturday evening in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery , Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her husband, James; a son, Norman of Lone Tree; and a brother, Donald Hempy of Ferryville, Wis.

Also surviving are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Born the daughter of Glen and Grace Knapp Hempy on Jan. 30, 1908, in Martelle, she married James D. Fitzgerald on Jan. 5, 1928, in Iowa City. Berniece graduated from Marion High School and the University of Iowa Business College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving on the board of deacons; past matron and 50-year member of Marion Chapter 183, OES; Wednesday Study Club; U.S. Homemakers Circle; and 1927 Club.

The Rev. Jay Miller will officiate.
