Albert Knobel Jan. 18. 1887 - January 21, 1981

Albert Knobel, 94, well known former Monticello businessman, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the New Glarus Home, where he had been a resident since 1976. Death followed a brief illness. Born in Humboldt County, Iowa, on Jan. 18, 1887, he was the son of Fred and Chloe Babler Knobel. They moved to Monticello when he was a small boy and he attended school here. He also attended the Monroe Business College. His marriage to Edna Juingst took place June 14, 1911, in Monticello. He was a long-time resident there and for 45 years was associated in the wholesale cheese business as a partner in the Arn and Zweifel Company in Monticello. He retired from business in 1952.

He was a member of the Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello. A 70-year member of the New Glarus Masonic Lodge, Chapter 310, a member of the New Glarus Order of Eastern Star, New Glarus Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, the Madison Scottish Rite bodies and Zor Shrine. He was a former director and vice president of the Bank of Monticello, and was also an avid golfer, one of the first in Monticello.

Survivors are one son, Donald J. Knobel, Monticello; one sister, Mrs. Anna Francis,
Janesville; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday Jan, 24, in the Zwingli Church Memorial Lounge,
Monticello. Rev. Charles G. Workman officiated and burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harold M. Babler, Thomas H. Brusveen, Karl H. Freitag, William R.
Gibbons, Lawrence F. Marty, and Wilbert E. Stauffer, all of Monticello.
