Harry Eugene “Gene” Green, 80, of Chanute, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013 at his home.

Gene was born in Wilson County, Kansas on April 4, 1933, the son of Harry H. and Agnes Marie (Steele) Green. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1951.

Gene was united in marriage to Betty Bell Travis on December 26, 1954 in Altoona, KS. She survives of the home.

He served his country in the United States Army from February 25, 1955 until his discharge on December 30, 1956. During his military career he spent the majority of his time stationed in Germany.

He was a retired farmer and oil field worker. He also measured ground for Wilson County ASCS office for several years.

Gene is survived by his wife Betty of the home; children David Green and wife Kathy of Independence, KS, Alan Green and wife Rhonda of Thayer, KS, Eileen Wall and husband Jed of Rodman, NY, Bruce Green and wife Ernestine of Sycamore, KS, Sandra Bentley and husband Bruce of Neodesha, KS and Brian Green and wife Tabatha of Independence, KS; fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Varner of Benedict, KS, and Mary Ann Larkin of Chanute, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clifford Green and Larry Green; and one sister, Margaret Russell.

Memorials in his name may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, or Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left with the funeral home.
