Jack Magoon Dies At Wisconsin Dells
Word of Passing Received Here Yesterday by Relatives
The sad word has been received here of the death yesterday (Wednesday) of Jackson (Jack) Magoon, erstwhile Monticello resident who left some 40 years ago for Wisconsin Dells, where he had since resided. He had been severely ill for several days before his death.
Native of Monticello
Mr. Magoon was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard McGoon, pioneer Monticello residents, having been born here in 1853. He grew to manhood in this village and for some years was in business here. He was married to Miss Barbara Burgy, who passed away about three years ago. At one time Mr. Magoon was the owner and proprietor of the Monticello hotel, a frame structure, which was burned to the ground in 1894. After the building had been destroyed, Mr. Magoon disposed of the site to the late Jacob Figi, who constructed what was known as the Monticello House, now labeled the Casino.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Chandler, St. Paul, and Mrs. Addie Zwickey, Basco, Wis. Mr. Magoon was a brother-in-law of R. J. Edwards an also of Jacob Burgy, both of this village.
The deceased was well known to many in this vicinity and had a host of friends, all of who will learn with sadness of his sudden passing.
(His father is buried as McGoon but Jacks grave bears the Magoon, in the Spring Grove cemetery, Wisconsin Dells.)
