Death of a Gallant Old Civil War Veteran Yesterday
George Thomas, a venerable and respected citizen, died at 4:25 o'clock yesterday evening at the King's Daughters hospital after an illness of several weeks from the infirmities of advanced age.
The remains have been taken to the home of a sister, Mrs. Andrew Augustin, Sr., 414 north Poplar street, the funeral to take place from there at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, the burial to be at Fairmount.
The decedent would have been 81 years of age next July 10 and was born in Philadelphia, though he had been a resident of Madison for many years. His wife died here two years ago and a step son only of his family survives. There are five sisters living, Mr. Thomas being the first on the family of children of his parents to die. The sisters are: Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan, Philadelphia, Mrs. Willis Ryker and Mrs. John Stiver of this county; Mrs. Andrew Augustin, Sr., city; and Miss Katie Thomas, of this county. Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the 33d Indiana Infantry in the civil war and was a good and worthy citizen.
