Miss Anna Kelly Succumbs After Life of Service

Passes Away at Wymore Aged 75 Years

Miss Anna Kelly, daughter of John Kelly and Anna Quinn, was born April 18, 1863, at Sugar Ridge, Pa. The Kelly family immigrated to the West when Anna was still only a little girl and settled on a farm near what is now Barnston (sic). Imbued with the spirit of the early pioneer to make the best of everything Miss Kelly took the responsibility of the household upon her shoulders early in life, for when she was only ten years old the mother was practically an invalid. For thirty-five years she lived at home and cared for the mother. Shortly after the death of the mother a sister, Mrs. Steve Bethscheider, who was widowed in 1904 and living at Davenport, Iowa, passed away leaving five small children. Miss Kelly accepted this mission and made her home in Burlington until 1917. When only the two youngest children, Maude and Jon remained at home they moved to Hebron, Neb., so the children might enjoy the companionship of relatives. Miss Maude married Jack Engle of Hebron and moved to Wymore to make her home. Miss Kelly came to Wymore in 1927 where she made her home with the Engles. Her health had started to fail and during her stay in Wymore she had been an invalid most of the time. However, she was seriously ill for only four weeks prior to her death November 2 at the age of 75 years, ending a lifetime mission of service to her loved ones. During the last illness a niece, Mrs. Frank Shipman, of Hebron, who is a nurse, aided Mrs. Engle in caring for the aunt and foster-mother. All who knew her loved her and her passing leaves a void in many lives. She was a faithful member of the Catholic church and a helpful member of the Altar Society.

Besides a brother, N.J. Kelly, of Marysville, Kans., four nicees (sic) and a nephew survive: Mrs. Jack Engle and family, John N. Bethscheider and family, of Hebron, Mrs. E.A. Shipman and family of Hebron, Mrs. B.T. Davenport and family of Hebron, and Mrs. E.M. Conradt and family of Steinauer.

Pallbearers were Leonard Conradt of Steinauer, Kenneth and Allen McDonald of Hebron, Albert Shipman of Hebron, and Charles and Edmond Davenport of Hebron.

Funeral services were held on Friday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Mary's church (sic) with Rev. S.G. Wagner assisted by four altar boys: Robert Shipman of Hebron, Eugene Engle, Basil Walsh and Brandon Poutre. Interment in the cemetery at Hebron, Neb.
