MANCHESTER - Curtis Vance Berry went to his eternal home, to be with his Heavenly Father, on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at MaineGeneral Medical Center where he recently had been a patient. He was born on Dec. 30, 1927 in West Farmington, the oldest son of Karl Curtis Berry and Ina (Tracy) Berry.

Curtis was a graduate of Farmington High School and later from Vocational Technical Institute after serving his country and being Honorably Discharged from the Army. He was stationed in Korea during WWII as a heavy and track vehicle engine maintenance specialist in the 81st Ordinance Tank Maintenance Company from June 1946 through November 1947. On April 2, 1950, he married Carrie Smith, of Manchester, where they built their home together.

Curtis was involved in many town organizations. He taught woodworking to members of the Jolly Lincoln 4-H Club, was a longtime member of the Manchester Planning Board, former president of the North Manchester Meeting House Association and a member of the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, where he was secretary and treasurer for several years.

He was employed for 27 years at the State Department of Transportation, Right of Way Division. He was also a registered surveyor.

Curtis was member of Penney Memorial United Baptist Church, where he was a past member of the Board of Trustees. One of his greatest joys was helping to build the family camp, Camp Idle in Deblois, Down East Maine. He loved fishing and camping with family and special friends Francis and Lorena Crocker.

He was predeceased by his sister Pauline Owens and a brother Karl Berry Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carrie S. Berry, of Manchester; daughters Linda Burrill and her husband, Scott, of Chelsea; and Peggy Record and her husband, Larry, of Windsor; grandsons Dr. Isaac Record and his wife, Ellie Louson, of Toronto, Onario, and Jared Record, of Freeport.; also many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in the Scribner Hill Cemetery in Manchester. (Kennebec Journal 8/19/2013)
