CEDAR FALLS — Esther Marie Slack Smith, 97, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, Aug. 16, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo, of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 27, 1916, in Tripoli, daughter of William and Bertha Weihe Slack. She married Wilbur "Dale" Smith on Sept. 1, 1934, in Waverly. He died Dec. 15, 2000.

Mrs. Smith worked in the dietary department at the Western Home Communities after raising her family

Survived by: two daughters, Cheryl (Al) Nissen of Cedar Falls and Caryl Smith of Waterloo; three sons, Douglas (Leslie) of Finchford, and Kevin (Denise) and Scott (Amy), both of Cedar Falls; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: four brothers, Ervin, Wilburt, Arthur and LaVern Slack.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Service and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
