John Howard Moss Sr., 78, of 105 Corse Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born August 9, 1920, in Madison, N.C., to the late Lulabelle S. Moss and the late Rev. John Robert Moss.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Jim Moss, and four sisters, Prudence Moss, Ginny Justice, Bette Lucas and Ruby Bledsoe.
He was a veteran of World War II and was retired from American Furniture Company.
He was affiliated with Villa Heights Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia C. Moss of the home; four daughters, Betty Moss Bartley of Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. Ralph (Bonnie) Wells of Ridgeway, Kathy Parker of Martinsville and Mrs. Eugene (Ginger) Moore of Axton; two sons, John Howard Moss Jr. and James F. Moss Sr., both of Martinsville; one brother, Charlie Moss of Portsmouth; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and and nephews.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Villa Heights Baptist Church with the Revs. Ray Farrow and David Gillispie and Brother Hampton Price officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
Military rites will be performed by the Martinsville/Henry County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the the church and at other times at the home on 105 Corse Ave., Martinsville.
Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
