Funeral services for Shirley Newt Burns were held Thursday, December 24, 1970 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Original German Funeral Home of Steele.
The Rev. John Haywood conducted the services for Mr. Burns, who died December 22, 1970 at the age of 63.
Born September 10, 1907, he had been an area resident for 28 years.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Maggie Davis Burns; five sons: J.J. Burns of Coloma, Mich.; Jackie Burns of Savannah, Tenn., Shannon Burns of Savannah; Bruce Burns and Paul Lee Burns, both of Cooter; six daughters: Vivian Peters, St. Louis; Martha Ann Rushing, Cooter; Janie Siegler, Holland; Linda Moncell, Savannah, Tenn.; Regina King, Caruthersville Route and Shirley Burns, Cooter; two brothers, Eugene Burns, Steele and Jessie Smith, Hayti; three sisters: Daisy Brilland, Chicago; Sylvia Freeman and Dessie Carlin, both of Cooter; and 28 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jack Whittington, Zara King, Joe Webb, Shon Pollard, Danny Flowers and Bud Davis.
Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele with the Original German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements.
