Mr. Earnest Hardy, 85, of Franklin, Ga., died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at Newnan Hospital East.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at New Springs Congregational Methodist Church in Heard County. The Rev. Mark Willingham, the Rev. Jimmy Henry, and the Rev. Larry McDaniel will officiate; and burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Hardy was born August 20, 1917 in Heard County, son of the late Thomas and Ida Gray Hardy. A resident of Heard County most of his life, he lived in Manchester for 15 years before returning to Franklin in 1999. He was a member of the Church of God and was a retired textile loom mechanic.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille Arrington Hardy of Franklin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and James Phillips and Kathy and James Owens, all of Franklin; two sons, Billy Hardy of Villa Rica and Larry Hardy of Roopville; two sisters, Eunice McLain and Jimmie Nell Bell, both of Franklin; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Hardy; sisters, Winnie Fuller and Ina Smith; and brothers, Henry Hardy, Joe Hardy, Owen Hardy and Ormery Hardy.
