A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Clarence Beason and Sally Mae (Godfrey) Vaughn and widower of Judy (Lanford) Vaughn.
He was a member of Blessed Hope Free Will Baptist Church and a former truck driver with Metromont.
He is survived by a son, Melvin Ray Vaughn Jr., of Woodruff; a daughter, Tammy Louise Vaughn Cassar of Asheboro, NC; two brothers, Dallas Vaughn and Randall Vaughn both of Woodruff; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Blessed Hope Free Will Baptist Church from 2:00 until 2:45 PM followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Pete Bove and Rev. Danny Easler.
Interment followed in The Darby Cemetery at Green Pond Baptist Church.
