Helen Frances (Niemeier) Gibson

Evansville, Ind. - Helen Frances (Niemeier) Gibson died May 19, 2022, surrounded by loved ones at University Nursing and Rehabilitation in Evansville.

She was born Oct. 4, 1928, in St. Phillip, Indiana. She married Roy Allen Gibson in 1948. They lived in Evansville and had five children.

In their retirement years, Helen and Roy were active members of St. Theresa Church, enjoyed many Schaffer bus tours around the country, and spent many hours visiting with fellow mall walkers and friends at Eastland Mall.

When Roy died in 2012, Helen enjoyed spending time with her children, working jigsaw puzzles, and participating in activities at The Villas, where she lived independently until 2019. She joined Good Shepherd Catholic Church when St. Theresa closed.

She was a loving mom, a great wife, and a wonderful cook. Her family will miss her quick wit, sense of humor, and wisdom.

She was preceded in death by her parents Philip and Elizabeth (Konrad) Niemeier; siblings Lorraine Weinzapfel, Bob Niemeier, and Harold Niemeier; husband Roy; sons Tommy and Eric (in childhood); and daughter Carole (Gibson) Morton.

She is survived by sister Ruth Schuessler; children Janet (Joe) Coleman and John (Erin) Gibson; son-in-law John Morton; and grandchild Jacob (Edlyn) Coleman.

The family would like to thank the staff at University and Heart to Heart Hospice. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Catholic Charities of Evansville, 2111 Stringtown Rd., Evansville, IN 47711.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022 and noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday officiated by Father Ted Tempel. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
