Elsie Hammerly Dec. 27, 1870 – August 35, 1952
Mrs. Casper Hammerly, 81 years of age, former resident of Mt, Pleasant township, passedaway at 3 Monday afternoon at Masshardt convalescent home in Monroe following an illness of about three years. Mrs. Hammerly had been seriously ill since May.
Native of Switzerland Elsie Zimmerli was born in Canton Aargau, Switzerland, on Dec. 27, 1870, the daughter of Fred and Marie Zimmerli Zimmerli. She attended schools in Switzerland and in September, 1882, she came to the United States with her parents, settling in Sylvester township.
She was united in marriage to Casper Hammerly March 1, 1894, in Monroe. Following their marriage, Mr, Hammerly made cheese in Albany and Clarno townships. In 1906 they took up farming in Mt. Pleasant township, about three miles southeast of Monticello.
Mr. Hammerly passed away in 1912 and Mrs. Hammerly carried on at the farm until
moving to Monroe in 1922. She was a member of St. John's church, Monroe.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wm. Pagel, Monticello, and Mrs. Kenneth Lovell,
Monroe; one son, Fred C. Hammerly, Albany; five grandchildren, and five great-
grandchildren.
She was the last of her family, her parents, three brothers and a sister having preceded herin death. A grandson. Alvin Pagel, died in 1926.
Funeral services will be held at the Stuessy funeral home, Monroe. The Rev. Paul C. Kehle, pastor of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church, Monroe, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland cemetery, Monticello.
