Charlie married Sarah Alice Friedt on 19 June 1886. He was a farmer and a teamster, hauling wood and coal into Akron.

When he died of typhoid fever, he left his wife and four small children ( Elmer, Herbert, Lloyd and Mae). Although he is buried in River Styx Cemetery, his wife had his name engraved on her stone in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wadsworth, Medina Co., Ohio.
