Local Obituary:
SCOTT W. BUCHAN - Funeral services for Pfc. Scott W. Buchan, who was killed in action in Germany April 11, 1945, will be conducted in the Turner Chapel at 3:30 p.m., Thursday by the Rev. D. Keith Irwin, pastor of Olivet Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Cemetery, where military services will be conducted at the grave by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family asks that flowers be omitted.
The body will arrive in Cedar Rapids Wednesday afternoon and will be taken to the Chapel, where friends may call.
Pfc. Buchan, before entering the service in May 1944, was a machinist at Iowa Manufacturing Company and Iowa Enineering.
Born Oct. 30, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, he was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church and of the Eagles Lodge.
He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Kathleen, are a daughter, Scotta, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Buchan, Cedar Rapids; six sisters, Mrs. J.E. Dameron, Mrs. DeVere Smith and Mrs. Lee Hiltbrunner, all of Cedar Rapids. Grace Buchan of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Agnes Stein of Minneapolis and Mrs. Francis Dailey of St. John's Newfoundland, also three brothers; Clyde of Los Angeles, Curtis of Oregon, Ill and J. Robert of Dallas.
