When Handley Chipman was born on August 31, 1717, in Sandwich, Massachusetts, his father, Hon. John Samuel (Chaffin), was 47 and his mother, Elizabeth Handley (Pope) (Russell), was 37. He married Jean Allen and they had nine children together. He then married Nancy Post and they had three children together between 1776 and 1780. He died on May 27, 1799, in Cornwallis, Canada, having lived a long life of 81 years.∼
