Peter was born in Tučapy, Bohemia. He was the fourth child of Kateřina Havel and Jan Čermák. Peter traveled to the United States with his younger brother Henry in 1869. They lived with their father and stepmother in Ward 9 Chicago and were there at the time of the Great Chicago Fire -probably living less than two blocks away from the O'Leary barn.
Like his father Jan, Peter was a tailor. He married Františka Jankovsky in Chicago in 1876. Peter and Františka had four children before he died of acute tuberculosis in 1880. His wife remarried, but only survived him for 3 years. I do not know what happened to their oldest child, Wenzl.
Peter, his wife, and their children are buried in his wife's family plot. Their graves are not marked.
