Mrs. Gesina Dorothea Abenbrink, 82, of 901 N. Main St. died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jarman Hospital in Tuscola. She had been a patient there since July 6.
Mrs. Abenbrink, who was born Feb. 6, 1884 in Alton, had taught in the Washington School at Alton for 11 years prior to her marriage on July 22, 1913 to Edward F. Abenbrink. Her parents were the late Menke and Sophia Hagedorn Oben.
A member of the Edwardsville Woman's Christian Temperance Union, Mrs. Abenbrink had served as its president, secretary and treasurer. She was a member of the Shut-In Club and Land of Goshen Historical Society, and was a former member of the Garden Club. She was a member of Eden United Church of Christ, the choir and Circle 1 of the Women's Guild. She had taught Sunday school in Alton and Edwardsville for 57 consecutive years.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Edna) Kresin of Tuscola; and three granddaughters. Nine brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Friends may call at Weber Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Thursday and until 11 a.m. Friday when the body will be taken to Eden Church to lie in state until the 2 p.m. service. The Rev. Robert O. Laaser will officiate. Interment will be in Valley View Gardens of Memory.
