Death of John Lynde. John LYnde, a native of this town and veteran of the Civil War, died Monday morning of heart and kidney disease, after an illness of several weeks. He was born Feb, 21, 1835, and was the second child and oldest son of John and Dolly (Smith) Lynde. He attended the common schools of the town and later went to Iowa, where he taught school and studied law, being admitted to the bar in 1860.
At the breaking out of the war he enlisted as private in Company D. 2d Iowa Vol, Infantry, which was mustered into service May 4, 1861. He received several promotions and was appointed to staff duty and was honorably discharged at the close of the war. He returned to this town to live in 1877 and has lived here quietly since.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in the Universalist church of whose choir he was leader for several years. Rev. Frances A. Kimball officiated, assisted by Rev. Cora M. Eves. The members of the Masonic lodge attended the funeral of their brother in a body.
